Carnaval de Quebec (CANADA)
The Quebec Winter Carnival or simply Quebec Carnival is a festival in Quebec City. The Quebec Carnival has been held since 1894 and has been interrupted since 1955. Bonhomme, the mascot of the festival, appeared from that same year.
Nearly one million people attended the version held in 2006 making it one of the largest winter festivals in the world.
Activities and attractions
The most important attractions of this winter festival are the night and day parades led by the mascot Bonhomme Carnival. For the occasion and the parade, the upper city is decorated with lights and ice sculptures.
Several public and private parties, as well as shows and activities are carried out through the city, some of them outside under intense cold.
Racing and tournaments
Careers and tournaments have been held, some as an integral part of the official program of the event, while others have been developed in parallel. Among others:
- The sledding race in which jínetes and horses participate individually and doubles over the Plains of Abraham.
- The race of ice canoes on the San Lorenzo River.
- The Pee-Wee International Hockey Tournament of Quebec (although since 1977 officially is no longer part of the carnival program).
- The Snowboard World Cup (also not part of the official program of the carnival).
Here I leave the link of a video so you have an idea of how this festival is.
